Hi everyone,
TLP admins, and spook
yesterday i rented us a linux server.
The guy from the company installed it and ran it.
He planned that the server IP will be 192.114.144.158
But apparently he forgot to bind the IP (binding means to tell the server to use a certain IP - refer to globalopsgame.com/faq).
So somehow at the beggining the server ran with the IP 192.114.71.8 (- I guess cus the real one wasn't bined). It ran ok with no problem (just eating up all the CPU to an extent the guy wants now more money, but thats another story).
This morning the guy from the company calls me and says he forgot to bind the IP and that he's gonna do it right away.
He added the line -
-bindip=192.114.144.158
to the file server.prf (as it says in the FAQ)
Since then the following occures:
1. After opening the server browser in GO the server (called "Clan1 GO server") appears on the list.
2. If u double click the server u get a TIMEOUT.
3. If u right-click the server and ask for the info, the IP u get is the old (unbined) one - 192.114.71.8. (same info on ASE & GameSpy)
4. Only if i explicitly use the "specify" option and put in the right IP (192.114.144.158) then a new unnamed server appears (grey IP-numbers, with a green "V" near it) and it is possible to connect to it.
The problem is that everyone sees "Clan1 GO server", but they get a TIMEOUT when they attemt to connect to it.
One last thing, If i bind the IP to the old one (192.114.71.8) everything works ok, but i dont want to do so because the guy toled me that the IP for the server will be 192.114.144.158, and i'm afraid to cause any trouble if i change the file server.prf.
I contacted EA tech-support (europe) but it seems the guy there is ... how to say... clueless.
Please help me i am cracking my head on this since last night and i really don't know what else to do.
Thank You so much
