FYI I saw some guys talking about lag at night. There's a simple explanation for this: at night some scripts are run to check the system's security, rotate logfiles, rebuild the locate-database, get networking-stats, firewall-stats, etc etc.. those are mailed to me so I can check them You can imagine searching for -all- files on the system simply costs a lot of CPU, and moreover, I/O, which will have a negative impact on the playability of GO. The scripts are already run on a lower priority than everything else, but since the Linux-port of GO-server is pretty crappy, taking up almost all CPU, they still cause lag..

Crashed as a client freeze crash ?? Because the server itself did have a crash last night, my brother is trying to find the source of the crashes and hopefully he can fix it, it hasnt anything to do particular with go server but if the whole server crashes there isnt a go server running anymore

Yes, as a client freeze. I had to reboot. After that server seemed to be still running. The strange thing with client freezes are that I can not do anything anymore. I run Windows XP, but GO totally locks up the OS. Well....Microsnot

hi, i run xp pro to, i allways use 2 logins, so if my "playerlogin" crashes, i do a windowskey+L open the taskmanager and close the globalops app...... much easier than a total reboot ;D

True.... but if all fails, a restart is inevitable. And sadly enough GO has a tendency of bringing down the complete OS in case of problems....

I cant remember I had that problem around that time. What I do know is that sometimes I get 'thrown' back a couple of meters in the level, where I already have been a few seconds before that. That happens not too often, so its not that irritating. My ping is nearly always 50-60, so that can not be the problem I guess.

Is it maybe possible that a client PC is very busy and that the communication between the client and the server gets out of sync because of that, so that warping or lag appears?
That might explain the fact that someone has a low ping but is still lagging..
I know for sure that I turn of AV scanning, background processes and everything else I dont use.

ZerosumThe "warping" (Jiggy) is a server-side problem, cause he can't "remember" the correct coordinates. Btw. the guys with the low ping should check their Packet Loss too! Maybe that's the reason for the bad performance.

@falcon
Yes, but the client has to report to the server where the player is going. Maybe the fact that the client can not give the correct position in time to the server that the server starts messing things up.
But hey! I didnt program the game, so maybe things work the other way around indeed.

I use Win XP also and always could WindowsKey+L out of my OS (only 1 user account), but if i get the client freeze now my OS totaly hangs, the last 2 things that have changed on my pc is a new gfx driver and SP1.
It seems to me/us that the server send some crap info to the go client that causes the client and OS to crash/hang (probly something with tcp/ip stack)
